Githurai is located in the Northeastern part of Nairobi, about 12km from the city center. The area is densely populated, and has a high HIV infection rate, commonly due to the sex industry that thrives in the community. CARE for AIDS opened a center in partnership with Berea Baptist Church in Githurai in 2013.
Center Health Counselor: Rose Wambui
Rose has a degree on Community Development and Social Work from Mount Kenya University. She previously worked in various clinics, counseling clients after they received their diagnosis. She loves her position as Medical Counselor at the CARE for AIDS center in Githurai.
Center Spiritual Counselor: Frederick Okwatch
Fred has a diploma in Theology, and he has been a part of the leadership team at Berea Baptist Church for many years. In addition to being a the CARE for AIDS Spiritual Counselor, he serves as the children's minister for the church.
