Meet Abbie

May 9, 2016

This morning's post comes to us from the newest member of the CARE for AIDS team, Operations Coordinator Abbie Rapoport!

I was born and raised in the small town of Anderson, South Carolina and had a wonderful childhood filled with imagination and adventure.  My family and I frequented Lake Hartwell and were involved in many sports leagues, community activities, and the local church.  I graduated from Clemson University with a Business Marketing degree and worked for a small real-estate company specializing in student housing development for two and a half years.  Since our move to Atlanta in 2014, I have worked for Delta Vacations as a financial analyst.

I married the love of my life a little over two years ago and we live in the Morningside – Virginia Highland neighborhood in Atlanta with our boykin spaniel, Tillman.  Todd and I have enjoyed living in Atlanta and have spent the last year and a half traveling and immersing ourselves in our new city.  Our favorite things include exploring Atlanta by foot, returning to Clemson for football games, spending days on the lake, and visiting our parents in Anderson and New England every chance we get!

My journey with CARE for AIDS began in October of 2014 as a brand new resident of Georgia.  The night of our move, my husband and I had the opportunity to attend the CARE for AIDS Gala. I was left speechless after learning about the orphan crisis in Africa, and fell in love with the unconditional love this ministry was extending in their holistic approach to caring for individuals and families affected by HIV/AIDS.

After a year and a half at Delta and many months of prayer, it was time for a career change.  Justin is a dear friend of Todd’s and mentioned that CARE for AIDS had a position opening.  I already knew I loved the CARE for AIDS mission and once I read the position description, I knew this was the opportunity for which the Lord had been preparing me.  I could not get the position off my mind or the smile off of my face, so without delay I contacted the team.

The Operations Coordinator position excites me because it will allow me to pair my diverse background in business and finance with my passion to serve families and communities affected by HIV/AIDS.  I am looking so forward to traveling to Kenya on my first CARE for AIDS Impact Trip in September and seeing our operations first hand.

I cannot wait to see how God will use me in the upcoming adventures and am absolutely ecstatic to be a part of the CARE for AIDS Ministry!
