“You cannot solve a problem with the same mind-set that created it.” -Albert Einstein
The moment I read this quote couldn’t have been more perfect! One night a little over half way through our impact trip I stumbled across it while reading an article on poverty. Not long before, I had been searching for words to describe all we had experienced thus far on the trip. This quote defined the essence of what CARE for AIDS does perfectly to me.
Working on staff for CARE for AIDS I felt I had a good grasp of what our program looked like in Kenya before actually visiting. Between home visits, service projects, and counseling sessions I gained a much clearer picture of what we truly do as an organization, though. We are not just giving people hope, we are helping them adopt a new mind-set that has the potential to completely transform their lives.
I have only been back in the states for a few days and still am trying to fully grasp all that I experienced in Kenya. Our Impact Trip was a little different than a typical trip. This trip was created for a group of our CARE for AIDS University (CFAU) leaders.
Our hope in bringing a group of some of our new CFAU leaders to Kenya was that they would experience fully what CARE for AIDS does and understand exactly WHY we exist. We felt that experiencing all that CARE for AIDS is would make them stronger leaders on their campuses in the Fall.
I can say without a doubt that each person on our trip was transformed completely, including me. Not only did we experience the transformations that were happening in the lives of CARE for AIDS’ clients, but our personal mind-sets about life and our potential to make a global impact, despite any obstacles, were changed as well.
CARE for AIDS does so much to educate and encourage our clients. After visiting Kenya, though, I believe what really makes the difference is that we help individuals transform their mind-sets on their status, their future, and LIFE itself! It’s because of this shift in mind-set that a huge problem is made much more manageable for our clients and their families.
I am thankful and blessed to be a part of an organization that is making a truly lasting impact on everyone who encounters it!
